BSMDH-SCOTLAND - A brief history by Dr Gordon Ker (Hon. Vice President)

The British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis was constituted in 1955, having previously functioned as the British Society of Dental Hypnosis since 1952.

From within its membership, Dr David Keir Fisher, and several colleagues-mainly dentists- founded the Scottish Branch of BSMDH in 1959. It continued as such until 1992 when Council in Scotland decided that it should have a seperate identity, and so BSMDH-Scotland became a reality.

Charitable status was established in 1987. No. SC002536.

One of its main objectives is to train registered doctors and dentists in the application of hypnosis as well as certain health professionals approved by Council of the Society. To achieve this, courses, at different levels, and workshops are arranged each year at various venues throughout Scotland.
