Members of Council Dr Lesley Barbenel President. I’m very happy and honoured to be President of BSMDH(S) and am looking forward to exciting and productive times ahead with the Society. Over the last couple of years we have seen the Society become revitalised and we are fortunate to have many talented and proactive professionals within our group. As some of you may know I am a Dentist ( University of London) by professions and most of my work at the Glasgow Dental Hospital , which I joined in 1971, was with children. This included teaching Paediatric Dentistry, to under and post graduate students. My retirement in 2004 has allowed me to take this very important role within BSMDH(S) and it’s one I look forward to with much enthusiasm. My training in Clinical Hypnotherapy and NLP with BSMDH(S) gave me a plethora of additional tools which I used to good effect in my professional sphere. The techniques were especially useful with children who not only lost their fear of the dental chair but often learned skills that would also improve their self esteem and boost their confidence. I would like to thank all our outgoing office bearers with a special thank you to Alistair Dobbin for steering the Society into a place where it can now move on and modernise. We have pushed out the boat this year to bring you internationally renowned speakers and I am asking you all too actively support our Syllabus. We need to show them, not only a traditional Scottish welcome, but also that our Society is vibrant and forward thinking. Dr Long our Academic Chair and Hon Secretary has sent out the dates of our meetings and we are looking for you to make these meetings successful. A Society is only as good as its constituent parts and we have many exceptional people within our group. I look forward to seeing you at our meetings.
